An aside...

As I told Dan, on January 1st, 2010, I'm going to send him the content of Mugen Densetsu: The Yzyrra Chronicles. I will be sending it as it is with whatever sections covered at that time. It'll be good to have some critique based upon having seen actual rules instead of just discussions of game design theory. I don't have the monsters/beasts/creatures numerically designed yet (so far there's just rules for facing adversaries that were humanoid) but the rules for designing them will be a bit more concrete after seeing how the characters are set up.

While this is a very vague post, I feel this is a very concrete step towards the progress of my role-playing game system.

Also, I haven't forgotten about posting my manga pages. I also need to go back and find my old pages so that I can get them copied down so I can scan them without having to splice them together seeing as the old pages were hand-drawn on 11" x 17" comic book pages while the more recent stuff was drawn on my computer with a Wacom & Manga Studio Debut. I haven't done anything except sleep and work for the past month or so because of doing overnights. I haven't seen this coming week's schedule but I would believe that we should be done with that. Only time will tell...

What do you guys think?

I've been rather quiet with general "stuff" going on so I admit my flaws. I haven't been illustrating as much as I could/should. I think I get introspective around this time of year and realize I have a talent and shouldn't be squandering it. I'm not going to say I'm going to start cranking out pages right now. Especially right now with the holiday season upon me and dealing with both customers and family.

That being said, I'm going to start posting my manga that I have been working on for aeons and let it's eyes be shattered by the light of the world. I ultimately intend to post this stuff on Tokyopop as well in hopes of getting noticed there. I believe I'm good enough to pull that off.

I will post at a rate of one page per week. That should hopefully give me enough time to keep up a lead with all that is going on. Maybe after I feel I've built up a comfortable enough routine, I will ramp up the rate.

EDIT: After posting I realized I never presented a question as to give an opinion on as the post title leads one to believe. The question is... "Do you think it's a good idea to debut my manga content at Tokyopop or something more along the lines of DeviantArt?" I already have a DA page but haven't put my BY content on there yet. I can easily get a Tokyopop account in no time but wondered which would better the better place to reveal such a thing.

Still not the troll but HUZZAH!

I finally figured out how to work in Manga Studio Debut 3.0 with color. It's nothing elaborate because I was just trying to get the process down for the settings and layer orders I'd need to do them. It's small because the actual part was a piece of a bigger image that was whited out. Now I have the principles going, I can try to see what I can really do with that program.

I know I still owe the troll...

Hey! So I was trying to decide if I was going to use MSD (Manga Studio Debut) today and something told me to check their website out. So I did and turns out they are now on MSD 4.0. I have 3.0. I checked to see if it had an upgrade kit and it's only $20 so I will probably be doing that when I get my first check after I get back from GenCon.

Apparently Dave Gibbons who does Watchmen even uses MS-EX (what they don't mention is he has the EX version because he can spare $300).

El Tree Troll

Yes, I know, too much free time at work. Anywho, here is a tree troll I sketched, which I had actually sketched something pretty similar to him months ago, but never did much with...

And here's another sketch I did, trying to not go off the page like I have a bad habit of doing:

He looks a bit more Ent-ish than I intended, and I suck at drawing bark, but whut-eva.

El Flower Troll

Ok, so I really have been liking the Troll challenge, so I've done a few more sketches. This is a flower troll I doodled at work.

Chousen 7-El Forest Troll

Behold! A forest troll. I was looking at the pictures on the wikipedia page Dan linked to for ideas, and decided to try and aim for something in the style of those. This was done while jacking around at work, so I didn't get to do to much, so if I get 5 minutes to myself anytime soon, I'm going to do more sketches and I'll post them.

Chousen #7: Leg taste good!

I was toying around with some troll anatomy and I wasn't really liking anything so I went in a more modern take on trolling; The idea here was a mix of Killer Croc, some Kezu, the Eye-Ball-Hands guy from Pan's Labyrinth. The creator having heard of a what a human looks like, but never having actually seen one so the details are all off. Starting with a lizard or something reptilian. And it needs bigger teeth for the eating of said humans. Oh and tiger stripes, for speed.

Now I'm not sure I like this! So Ill probably go back and do a more classical troll…
I also drew its ass, and backbone anatomy, because it amuses me.

Chousen #7; They call me Troll

"They call me Troll;
Gnawer of the Moon,
Giant of the Gale-blasts,
Curse of the rain-hall,
Companion of the Sibyl,
Nightroaming hag,
Swallower of the loaf of heaven.
What is a Troll but that?"

Chousen #7- Dan, you're up!

I've been enjoying what results from these challenges. Especially the reactions. I have been calling the shots on these so far but I'd like to have someone else come up with the idea. So just to put him on the spot, Dan you're up! The chousen is for you to decide the next project. Let us know what you have in mind by Saturday the 11th.

The chousen has been made, GO!
-D

P.S.- I'd just like to take this moment to announce that earlier tonight, Kildano my hobbit Burglar on Lord of the Rings Online capped out at level 60! Oww! Look out Watcher in the Water!

Chousen #6

Okay, so I'll admit I've never played Silent Hill.  Anywho, from what I could gather about the creatures, is that some of them are manifestations of a characters personal fears.  So I went with what would probably be a fairly typical fear of a female character, childbirth that goes terribly wrong.  Difficult birth, baby being stillborn, ect...in all of its bloody glory.

um...enjoy?

Chousen #6

So as I understand monsters in Silent Hill they are suppose to be something from the main character's past in some way. This is the 'Horror of Apathy'. The basic idea being that the main character at some point witnessed something they could have stopped or at least tried to stop, but the character just stood and watched.

This thing being the souls of other similar people, covered in grasping & pawing hands that dont allow them to act, just watch as they do terrible things with their bodies (eg attack the character, torture others and so on).

I dont remember which hand idea was the first, I'm going to say it was the two on the ears and mouth, but it was probably the crotch hand…

Chousen #6- Kash

I present "Gripping Hunger". An aberration from the aberrant dogs that have worms that form a head or a head that has been vertically cleaved in twain. I wanted it to appear emaciated and starving. It doesn't need to see to chase it's prey as it trips and grips with it's arm-head, holding and dragging it's prey into it's oral cavity.

I wanted it to look dirty but only so much can be done with black and white white going shade crazy and I don't really want to deal with that degree of shading without doing it in charcoal. So there you have it. Hope you like it!

Chousen #6! Go!

So I was sitting here trying to think of an idea for this chousen, and I thought about the project I just posted. There was a cameo appearance by Robbie the Rabbit from Silent Hill 3 & 4. It reminded me of how much I liked that game. Thus is the inspiration for this chousen.

Chousen: Each participant is to research, design, and create a new creature that would exist in the twisted alternate dimension of Silent Hill.

Deadline: The creature is to be posted by 11:59pm April 4th, 2009.

Choice of Medium: The choice of medium is up to the artist.

The chousen has been made... Go!

*Headsmack*

Well. I admit I've been kinda sidetracked. I've been busy with LotRO, Left 4 Dead, my roleplaying game system, and such. I apparently have hit the mother lode. With that set of Copics, I want to get some real use out of them. So I will have to post my new year's day response, which will be in B&W for time's sake. But issue a new Chousen this coming Friday and it will be due the saturday night of the following week. So if a month started on a Friday, the chousen would be issued the 1st and due by the 9th.

What really killed my being on a roll was... you know what. That really doesn't matter. I didn't manage my time so that was my mistake. I just have to start early if necessary. See you all this Friday.

EDIT: Here it is as I said, my illustration of how I spent my New Year's Day.

New Years Day-niff

So this is it, my exciting New Years Day. I don't think I bothered to get out of bed all day.
I'd feel bad about being lazy again and only doing something in pencil, if it wasn't two months after the challenge and nobody else has posted.
